Ole Selnæs has extended his contract with Rosenborg BK. The new deal runs until the end of the 2028 season, adding one year to the agreement he signed upon his return to Trondheim in 2023.

The 32-year-old midfielder has been an important figure under manager Freyr Alexandersson, and the extension comes during a period of clear progress for the team. Rosenborg sit sixth in the Eliteserien with 30 points and have won four of their last five matches. The most recent victory was a 5-3 thriller against Tromsø, where Selnæs scored the opening goal after just three minutes.

“I have chosen to extend because I think it's fun to be here,” Selnæs said. “I believe in what we are doing.”

Selnæs returned to Rosenborg two and a half years ago after spells abroad. Since then he has battled injuries and illness, but now feels fit and ready to contribute consistently. He has a total of 220 official appearances for the club he debuted for as a 17-year-old in 2012, and he was part of the team that won both the league and cup in 2015.

Sporting director Alfred Finnbogason for the men's side describes Selnæs as a key player and a cornerstone of the team. “It is important for us to keep our best players and create stability in the squad,” Finnbogason said. He called it a good day for Rosenborg.

The extension is seen as a signal that the club wants to retain the core of a squad showing signs of turning a corner. With a strong period after the World Cup break and a top scorer in Amin Chiakha with 12 goals, the team is working to climb back towards the summit. They currently trail league leaders Bodø/Glimt by 20 points.

Selnæs hopes his decision might inspire others to follow. He wants to compete at the top of Norwegian football with Rosenborg, a place he believes the club belongs. The team's next task is an away fixture against 14th-placed Kristiansund BK.

Despite several players like Dino Islamović and Iver Fossum being sidelined, the team has shown good form. Selnæs's role as an experienced playmaker becomes even more vital in this phase. His recent contributions also include an assist in the 4-0 win over HamKam earlier in September.

The contract extension was signed this week and gives the player security for the next two years. Rosenborg's squad list shows a blend of youth and experience that Selnæs is now committed to leading.

Rosenborg confirmed on September 21 that Ole Selnæs has extended his contract by one year, from 2027 to 2028. The midfielder has been mentioned in the debate about national team selection but was not included in Ståle Solbakken's 25-man squad. The team secured a 3-1 away win against Kristiansund BK on September 20 and now sits in fifth place in the Eliteserien with 33 points.
