Rosenborg BK have made two significant moves this week with the signing of Mathias Kjølø and an impressive league victory. The club confirmed the transfer of the Norwegian midfielder from Dutch side Twente, according to their own website.
Mathias Kjølø has signed a contract with Rosenborg that runs until the end of the 2029/2030 season. The 25-year-old player arrives in Trondheim after nearly ten years in Dutch football, first with PSV Eindhoven and then with Twente. He has over 100 appearances in the Eredivisie and European competitions on his resume.
Kjølø told Rosenborg's media that the choice felt right. "Rosenborg felt like the right step, partly because of the development that has happened in the club recently," he said. Sporting director Alfred Finnbogason also expressed satisfaction with the signing, emphasising that the player can contribute immediately.
Rosenborg secured a 4-0 victory over HamKam at Lerkendal on Saturday. Emil Konradsen Ceide set the pace for the match when he scored after just 16 seconds. According to statistics from RBKweb, this is the fastest goal in the club's history, and the fourth fastest ever in the Eliteserien.
The win was Rosenborg's sixth in eight matches under coach Freyr Alexandersson. The team has thus climbed to a provisional fifth place in the table. This comes after a period where the team was second from bottom earlier in the season.
Emil Konradsen Ceide opened the scoring after 16 seconds and thus claimed the historic record. This was the third consecutive league match in which he has scored, a personal milestone. Noah Sahsah increased the lead to 2-0 early in the second half.
Top scorer Amin Chiakha then took over and scored two goals, one from long range and the other on a simple finish after being set up by Tobias Dahl. Chiakha now has ten goals for the season. Coach Freyr Alexandersson praised the young striker's attitude and focus after the match.
Mathias Kjølø describes himself as a versatile midfielder who can play several positions. "I am a midfielder. Where on the pitch I play doesn't really matter that much. I do the job I'm supposed to," he explained in his first interview for the club. He added that he is a team player who runs a lot and wants to help his teammates.
The player has followed Rosenborg closely over the last month and is looking forward to playing in front of the supporters at Lerkendal. His first chance to debut could come as early as the next match. Rosenborg's current position is 8th in the Eliteserien with 24 points from 18 games, and they have scored 27 goals so far this season.
Rosenborg face Tromsø at home on September 12th. Tromsø are currently in third place in the table, promising a tough match. The team is coming from a 4-2 loss to league leaders Bodø/Glimt on August 30th, and thus have one win and one loss in their last two matches. See the full schedule on our fixtures page. Mathias Kjølø's contract runs until the end of the 2030 season.
