Rosenborg BK have completed a significant signing by bringing Mathias Kjølø back to Norway. The 25-year-old midfielder arrives from FC Twente in the Netherlands for a transfer fee of around 10 million Norwegian kroner.

Kjølø has signed a contract that ties him to the club until the end of the 2030 season. He will take on the symbolic number 6 shirt, a jersey previously worn by club legend Roar Strand. The player could make his debut for Rosenborg as soon as the next match, which is against HamKam at Lerkendal.

Mathias Kjølø brings solid experience from eight years in Dutch football. He has played over 100 matches for Twente and has also experienced European competition. His background includes the youth academy of PSV and a spell at Vålerenga before moving to Twente in 2022. This provides him with a good foundation to adapt quickly to the Eliteserien.

Rosenborg's coaching staff likely see him as an immediate reinforcement for a midfield supporting a team currently sitting in eighth place in the league. With 24 points from 18 games and a positive goal difference of +1, the team needs consistency. Kjølø's arrival can contribute to that.

The signing comes at a time when Rosenborg have some absences on the injury list. Players such as Dino Islamović, Iver Fossum and Jonas Svensson are currently sidelined. Bringing in Kjølø therefore gives the manager more options in key areas.

His role will likely be in central midfield, where he can contribute both defensively and in build-up play. With experience from the high tempo of the Eredivisie, he should be able to handle the pressure in the Norwegian top division. The club's injuries page shows that the return of injured players will be important for the season's finale.

Mathias Kjølø expresses great joy at returning home. "It feels very big. It's a good day, also career-wise, and I am very happy to be able to sign for the biggest club in Norway," he said.

He added the feeling of fulfilling a dream. "It will be huge. It's a dream coming true." His father, football agent and former Stabæk player Mike Kjølø, has followed his career closely.

Rosenborg begin September in eighth place with 24 points. They have won seven, drawn three and lost eight of their 18 matches so far. The team has scored 27 goals and conceded 26. They are 20 points behind league leaders Bodø/Glimt, making it difficult to stay in the title race.

However, recent form shows signs of improvement. In the last five matches, the team has four wins and only one loss, with a winning run of two games. The most recent result was a 2-1 victory over Viking on August 14th. They will hope to continue this positive trend with new players in the team.

After the home match against HamKam, an important game against Tromsø at Lerkendal on September 12th awaits. Tromsø are currently in third place in the table, promising a tough match. All upcoming fixtures are listed on the club's fixtures page.

Mathias Kjølø's contract with Rosenborg BK runs until the end of the 2030 season.
