Rosenborg BK has made a significant move by acquiring Jayden Nelson from Toronto FC. The 20-year-old winger had his most successful MLS season in 2022, scoring one goal and providing two assists across 31 appearances (25 starts). His versatility as both a winger and central midfielder made him an important asset to the team.
Nelson joined Toronto ahead of the 2020 campaign as a Homegrown Player and was recognized for his potential with a top-20 ranking on MLSsoccer.com’s 2022 22 Under 22 list. The transfer marks the end of an era at Toronto FC, where he had been part of the club's youth system since 2016.
"It has been a pleasure to work with Jayden and see his progress here at his hometown club," said Toronto head coach and sporting director Bob Bradley in a release. "We knew Jayden always had the ambition to play in Europe, and when the right opportunity presented itself, we worked diligently with the player to secure the move."
Rosenborg BK, known for their dominance in Norwegian football, will welcome Nelson into a squad that includes US international Sam Rogers from Seattle Sounders FC. The club has won an Eliteserien record 26 titles and regularly competes in UEFA competitions.
For Rosenborg BK, the signing of Jayden Nelson represents a step towards strengthening their squad for the upcoming season. With a rich history and competitive ambitions, the Norwegian side is eager to see what the young Canadian can bring to the table.
