Rosenborg BK Takes Homegrown Winger Jayden Nelson from Toronto FC
Jayden Nelson, once considered a future star for Toronto FC (TFC), has found a new home in Norway. The transfer of the 20-year-old winger to Rosenborg BK was confirmed on Wednesday morning when photos surfaced online showing Nelson training with the Norwegian club.
According to TV2 in Norway, TFC and Rosenborg BK have agreed on terms for the transfer, which is expected to cost between $800,000 and $1 million. Bob Bradley, TFC's head coach and sporting director, expressed his satisfaction with the move: 'It has been a pleasure to work with Jayden and see his progress here at his hometown club.'
Nelson joins Rosenborg BK after making 50 appearances for TFC across all competitions since January 23, 2020. His lone goal came in April 9, 2022, against Real Salt Lake during the MLS is Back Tournament. The Toronto native also played a crucial role in helping TFC win the postponed 2020 Canadian Championship.
Reds Drop First Coachella Match to Vancouver Whitecaps
Following their transfer news, TFC faced an exhibition match at the Coachella Valley Invitational near Palm Springs against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The first half ended in a 0-0 draw, but the second half saw the Whitecaps secure a 3-0 victory.
TFC's lineup for the match included several new signings such as defender Sigurd Rosted and goalkeeper Sean Johnson. However, the team struggled to find their rhythm against Vancouver, with TFC’s designated player Federico Bernardeschi missing out on scoring a penalty in the first half. The Reds will continue their pre-season preparations by facing LAFC at Coachella on Saturday before opening their MLS regular season on February 25th against DC United.
The transfer of Jayden Nelson to Rosenborg BK marks an exciting new chapter for both the player and the club, while TFC continues its efforts to strengthen its roster ahead of the upcoming season.
